Q. Who runs this website?

A. Daniel Clydesdale & Eilidh Dunsire from Dunclyde created Open Sign to help local businesses survive during the changing times of COVID-19. More about its creation here: https://www.dunclyde.com/post/open-sign-launch

 

Q. Will my data be sold?
A. No, we (Daniel & Eilidh) set up Open Sign as a resource to help local businesses, not to profit from. As we move forward, and as a condition of the funding we have received, we must move to a model that can generate some income, to make the platform sustainable. However this will never involve the mistreatment of your information.

  

Q. I don’t want to receive any emails from Open Sign. Do I have to opt out?

A. Yes – the email address used to sign up will receive business critical emails from Open Sign (for example – if your listing receives an update). You can opt out of these by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email you received.

You can also opt in to receive occasional news updates from us. If you change your mind, you can opt out of these by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email you received.

Q. I've seen some incorrect information on a listing, how can I update it?

A. You can update a listing on the listing page you saw the mistake or outdated info. You'll see an 'incorrect info' box on the listing, with a link to submit an update for that business. Clicking the link will open a form that will allow you to update the listing. We collect the information of those updating the listings to compare them with the details of the original business submission. If these details do not match then the original business poster will be notified so they can confirm the update.

 

Q. I no longer want my listing, can I delete it?

A. Yes, just click submit an update (as covered in the previous question) from your listing and scroll to the bottom of the page to see the request deletion link. Following verification from the original business poster, we will remove your business’ listing within 24 hours.

 

Q. How do I update information?

A. From your listing page, fill out the update listing form with details of the changes and your listing will be updated.

 

Q. How long does it take for an update to show after I submit an update?

A. Approximately 1.73 seconds. You'll need to refresh your page though, to see the updates.

 

Q. I don’t know which operation status to pick, how are they defined?

A. There are 4 statuses, business owners are encouraged to select the status they feel best reflects their operational status.

Here are some guidelines to go by:

Operating - Green (Check for hours & notices. Still operating with little disruption.)
Restricted - Amber
(Check info. Offering reduced or changed services, e.g. a dine in restaurant now only offering delivery at restricted hours/days.)
Closed - Red
(Closed until further notice. No services being offered currently.)
Out of business - Black
(Closed for good.) :(
Star - Badge
(Listing updated or posted in the last 24 hours)

Q. Why is there a space for me to add my website and an update link? What is an update link?

A. Website link & update link explained - we included a space for different links on listings, this is because some companies prefer to use social platforms to update customers daily, and keep the most important info is on their website, so both links are available to make it easy for customers to find the most up to date information possible. Ideally all information on Open Sign would be the most up to date, but understandable this can't always happen, so the update links are a good fallback for customers. 

Q. My logo is cropped and doesn’t look good. How do I fix it?

A. Logos should be uploaded in square dimensions. If you’d like to update your logo, you can do so by navigating to your business listing page and scrolling to the 'Incorrect info' section and clicking the link to update the info.

 

Q. I didn’t list my business, but it is on Open Sign, why is this?

A. Open Sign was designed to be a community resource therefor anyone can submit a business listing for the benefit of the community. If your listing has incorrect information, or you’d like it to be removed, just submit an update form from your business’ listing page.

Q. Open Sign isn't in my city, will you expand to more places?

A. Open Sign is currently built and maintained as a free service for communities, we have plans to roll it out to more cities soon. We'll have more information on the roadmap for this in the near future. If you'd like to enquire, we'd love to hear from you. Get in touch with us opensign@dunclyde.com
